“We had to cancel professional development for the 2nd Grade Team. Again.”
“I can’t keep waking up at 5:00 a.m., scrambling for coverage.”
"The Principal had to sub in my class today."
“Every year, this gets worse.”
We hear this story over and over, at every school site, in every district, regardless of socio-economic demographics. School administrators and staff are sick and tired of having to deal with the lack of adequate and qualified substitute teacher coverage for their certificated and classified staff, year after year after year. And the sub shortage is only getting worse.
Administrators don’t know what to do, how to fix it, or even where to start. They don’t have the time to dedicate towards fixing their substitute shortage. The worst part---this is a fixable situation. Their sub problem has a solution.
That’s where SubWorksPro comes in. Our team has extensive experience working in school districts and in recruiting substitute teachers for those districts. Recruiting is a skill. It’s more than putting on a “Hello, my name is…” sticky on your shirt, and renting a booth at a job fair for 2 hours. It is a time-intensive effort that's a combination of job fairs, visiting universities and local businesses, and a grassroots-level outreach effort.
School districts often make the common mistake of recruiting substitutes, by saying “it’s a great way to reach young minds, and make a difference”, etc. This altruistic approach is not effective. This tactic only works for substitutes that have the single intention of becoming a teacher.
To put it bluntly---school staff and administrators do not know how to sell the substitute teaching opportunity to non-teachers. We do. And as the pool of potential future teachers shrinks, schools are having a problem understanding how to create crossover appeal for the substitute opportunity to non-teachers. If you don't understand why it's an awesome opportunity for non-teachers, they won't either. Like attracts like.
SubWorksPro is an educational nonprofit that recruits quality substitute candidates for school districts. We train them on professionalism, following lesson plans, IEPs, basic common core, deescalation, bullying awareness, and cultural sensitivity—we customize our sub training to your needs.
Then we teach YOU how to do what we do, so that school districts can become self-reliant and independent. If a district needs us to come back every now and then, to help train new staff due to turnover, or do a few recruitment events to replenish the sub pool, we are there for you. But our goal is to help districts help themselves, so that they don’t become the target of for-profit corporations that will take advantage of a school’s desperation, and convince districts to pay ridiculous sums of money year after year, with middling-to-poor results.
